Foley Capture

Recording original sounds for Beyond Skyrim’s Sea of Ghosts new land mods

Foley Capture

Highlights of the foley capture process for assigned sound assets according to creative brief from the team at Beyond Skyrim: Harrowfang Mire. I was assigned "Wood plank creak sounds", "Scratch on wood/stone/metal sounds" and "Creaking door sounds".

During these sessions, I produced nearly four hours of raw captures and selected the best 6 minutes of sound to bring into post. 90 seconds of those are featured in this clip.

The raw foley sounds needed re-centering in post due to the un-ideal microphone positions, leaving most sounds on the right of the stereo field. This work and more was completed in software like iZotope RX 9 and cleaned up in Steinberg Nuendo.

The best assets were delivered to the Harrowfang Mire team weeks before sound design department deadline.

From-scratch foley, post-processing and sound design asset delivery for Beyond Skyrim: Harrowfang Mire.

Wooden boards and creaking doors. Eerie scratching and creatures groaning. All of the above will put the player on edge in the dungeons of this harsh, wind-battered island of icy caves within the Sea of Ghosts chain of islands north of Skyrim.
